Jazz & Theatre Craft
Classes start from age 7 at JHM and they are combined term about with our Theatre Craft syllabus through the IDTA (International Dance Teachers Association) graded syllabus.
The style of class can be compared to contemporary dance with a strong technical feel to it with varying rhythms and styles for fun musical interpretation. Progression through the grades creates strong dancers building muscle and agility.
Grades start from Preparatory through to grade 5 before the start of the vocational grades. Gaining fundamental knowledge of the syllabus is extremely beneficial before progressing through the grades. Ballet and stretch classes are recommended alongside modern jazz to enhance the dancers technique and flexibility.
In class we explore the contrast between expansion and relaxation, isolated movements, travelling and floor work. Pupils will discover how to maximize the use of their body through the floor and air while showing control and balance.
This is the performance based show style dance class that everyone loves. Created to develop the dancer into a versatile all round show performer. Covering a vast range of themes through the grades from panto to cabaret. The use of props and a huge variety of music styles sees our dancers take to the stage with confidence and style.
Grades start from Preparatory at age 4 – following the IDTA (International Dance Teachers Association) syllabus. Pupils in class will alternate between studying Modern Jazz for one exam session before moving onto the Theatre Craft grade. Both Modern Jazz and Theatre craft are taught in our “modern” or “Jazz” classes in our timetable.
From grade 3 upwards girls start to learn the technique of heel work that is an essential skill for a dancer – training the body how to distribute weight while dancing in heels with the style and elegance of a showgirl.
