Following the IDTA Syllabus, CA1 is a ballet class of vocational level. Covering all aspects of ballet such as Barre, Centre, Adage, Allegro and Variations. This class requires great technical skill and strength. At JHM pupils join this class by Invitation and attend a second ballet class alongside CA1. Pupils may be in the class for many years before being put forward for the exam as it requires lots of training and study.

Following the IDTA’s Intermediate Freestyle syllabus our Inter Disco class follows on from the graded Freestyle classes. Designed to enhance dancers’ stamina, dynamics, rhythm and flexibility, this class lets our pupils dance to their favourite songs, learn tricks, kicks and leaps while they most importantly have fun. With more elements from traditional Freestyle dance the dancers get the chance to slow and fast dance with movements and energy that is tailored to their individual skill set.

All Jazz/Modern Classes at JHM follow both the IDTA’s Theatre Craft and Contemporary Modern Jazz syllabus. Following both syllabi allows two contrasting learning experiences in class helping to create a well rounded dancer. The exciting Theatre Craft syllabus exists to develop the versatile show dancer. Full to the brim with varied styles and essential elements -kicks, turns, and rhythmic awareness- are all explored, whilst props and accessories are used to assist the styles. The musical themed dances add to the excitement and atmosphere of this performance-based syllabus we love at JHM. Modern Jazz is great fun. You will learn to develop many different movements and begin to prepare the physical strength and flexibility required to demonstrate emotion through interpretation of any musical genre. The syllabus allows dancers to explore contrast between expansion and relaxation and learn to express feelings through dance to a mix of music including the rhythm of a drum or jazz funk.
